Liam Gallagher (Oasis)
“Them writing a song about a fucking tree? Give me a fucking break!”
The ex-Oasis frontman, famous for singing about a wall and not looking back (oh wait…!), had a new album out so he had to slag someone off, the wheel was spun and this time it landed on Radiohead, narrowly missing his Brother and Blur. Liam was not only aggrieved about Radiohead singing about a tree, but also questioned why, at least, it wasn’t written “about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”.
Matthew Friedberger (The Fiery Furnaces)
“Fuck you! You brand yourself by brazenly and arbitrarily associating yourself with things that you know people consider cool. That is bogus. That’s a put-on.”
Regarding the song Harry Patch (In Memory Of ) (about the UK’s last veteran of World War I), Friedberger got confused and thought the song was about Harry Partch, who is an American composer. Friedberger back tracked a week later saying that he hadn’t got the two confused and his publicist went on to say “Matt would have much preferred to insult Beck but he is too afraid of Scientologists”.
“So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the fuck down”
Kanye West was upset about being snubbed by Thom Yorke backstage the Grammys because he considers Radiohead to be one of his only creative rivals and idolises them.
Noel Gallagher (Oasis)
“I just think Radiohead are fucking miserable bastards.”
The ever-cheery Noel Gallagher, who only has nice things to say about people, actually really likes Radiohead’s music, but has a problem with the band themselves.
Robert Plant (Led Zepplin)
“What’s this rhyming crap?”
It turns out Robert Plant isn’t a massive fan of Radiohead after going out for a drink with a woman and hearing their music in the pub. He complained and asked the bar staff to change the music, to try and impress Plant, they put on Red Hot Chili Peppers, to which he commented saying it sounded like a “nursery rhyme”.
Gene Simmons (Kiss)
“I admire bands like Radiohead, but the idea of being that serious? Fuck that, get up on stage and blow shit up”
Regarding Radiohead’s live performances not involving enough explosives, Gene Simmons thinks that Radiohead are boring when they play live.
Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumkins)
“I’ll piss on fucking Radiohead, because of all this pomposity.”
Billy had a new album out and needed some publicity, so he said the above.
Westboro Baptist Church
“Freak monkeys with mediocre tunes”
This hate-group is unhappy that Radiohead are famous and don’t spread the word of God through their music or when they are interviewed. But, considering they think Radiohead preach Gay-Ok and divorce (?!), they still listen to them and think OK Computer is one of the best albums ever created.
“Stinkin’ Radiohead! I’m gonna ruin them”
Miley Cyrus boasted to friends that she could introduce them to Radiohead backstage at the Grammys but when her people asked Radiohead’s people to meet up, they were denied. Cyrus threw a strop and stormed out of the awards ceremony early. Radiohead responded to Cyrus’ comments- “When Miley grows up, she’ll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement.”
